Dr. Shadia Alam is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Hematopathology. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Toledo and her medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Alam completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, where she was chief resident. She then completed a fellowship in Hematopathology, also at The Ohio State University.

Prior to Summit Pathology, Dr. Alam was a staff pathologist at South Bend Medical Foundation in South Bend, Indiana. Dr. Alam is a member of the College of American Pathologists and the American Society for Clinical Pathology. She has also published numerous articles including a study on variability in follicular lymphoma grading, and presented on a variety of topics in cancer services settings.

Dr. Jeremiah Andersen is board certified in Surgical Pathology, with specific expertise in breast pathology. He completed his undergraduate degree at Iowa State University, and his medical degree at the University of Iowa. Dr. Andersen completed his residency as well as a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Andersen has served on the SCL Health Breast Disease Specific Team Taskforce, as well as serving as the lead breast pathologist for Lutheran and Good Samaritan Hospitals in the Denver area. In addition, he has published numerous articles and participated in research studies on breast pathology.

Dr. Barner is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with extensive subspecialty experience in gynecologic and breast pathology. Dr. Barner is a well-rounded, customer service oriented general surgical pathologist who has authored numerous articles and abstracts. He has presented at nationally attended meetings and is active in several local and national pathology organizations.

Dr. Barner earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Washington State University and completed medical school at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD. Following medical school, Dr. Barner served twenty one years in the US Army including assignments as a Transitional Intern at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Aurora, CO; flight surgeon at Hunter Army Air Field in Savannah, GA; Anatomic and Clinical Pathology resident at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC; Chief of Clinical Pathology at 121st General Hospital in Seoul, Korea; staff pathologist and interim Chair of the Department of Gynecologic and Breast Pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology; and six years as the National Capital Consortium's pathology residency program director, Walter Reed Army Medical Center and National Naval Medical Center in Washington, DC. Dr. Barner left the Army as a Colonel following his last assignment as Anatomic Pathology Service Chief, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD.

Dr. Erin Baumgartner is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Hematopathology. She completed her undergraduate degree at Centre College in Kentucky and her medical degree at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.

Dr. Baumgartner completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Alabama, where she served as Chief Resident in Clinical Pathology and received the Roy D. Kracke Award in Anatomical Pathology. She then completed a fellowship in Hematopathology at Emory University.

Dr. Baumgartner has experience in teaching and research projects, and has published in numerous industry journals.

Dr. Bee is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as in Hematopathology. He is currently the Laboratory Medical Director at Poudre Valley Hospital and Medical Center of the Rockies. Dr. Bee has authored several articles and given lectures, nationally and locally, on the uses of flow cytometry in diagnosing disease, and is an active member of several national pathology organizations, most notably the College of American Pathologists (CAP). Dr. Bee is a past member of the CAP Diagnostic Immunology Resource and Professional Affairs Committee and currently serves on the Economic Affairs Committee and the Policy Roundtable Committee. Dr. Bee also serves as the Colorado Delegate Chair for the CAP House of Delegates, and is a past President of the Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologists. His areas of interest and expertise include general surgical pathology, head and neck pathology, and all aspects of hematopathology with an emphasis on flow cytometry.

Dr. Bee graduated from McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, where he was also an Academic All-American in soccer. He then completed medical school, Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency and Hematopathology fellowship at The Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He moved to Colorado in 2003 after serving four years in the United States Air Force as a staff pathologist and as the medical director of flow cytometry at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.

Dr. Benjamin Chamberlain is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Dr. Chamberlain received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He completed medical school at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine before completing a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the department of pathology, Vanderbilt University. Dr. Chamberlain went on to fellowship in Surgical Pathology, also at Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Chamberlain has held medical directorships at several hospitals in Tennessee prior to joining Summit Pathology and published a variety of articles relating to gynecologic pathology among other topics.

Dr. Bianca Christensen is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. She completed her undergraduate degree at Colorado State University and her medical degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Dr. Christensen completed her fellowship training in Medical Microbiology as well as her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital. She served as chief resident while in residency at Massachusetts General.

Dr. Narina Grove is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Dermatopathology, with undergraduate work at California State University, Long Beach and her medical degree at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine. Dr. Grove completed her residency in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Irvine. She then completed a fellowship in Dermatopathology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Prior to Summit Pathology, Dr. Grove was a staff pathologist for Advanced Dermatology of Colorado. Dr. Grove is a member of the College of American Pathologists, the American Society of Dermatopathology and the American Society for Clinical Pathology. She has also published numerous articles on dermatopathology and other general pathology cases.

Dr. Gabriel Habermehl is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Hematopathology, and Dermatopathology. He completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, followed by fellowships in both Hematopathology and Dermatopathology, at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Habermehl received his undergraduate degree and medical education from the University of Colorado.

Beyond his clinical expertise, Dr. Habermehl has served as a Clinical Instructor of Pathology at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. He has also contributed to numerous research projects, publications, and presentations, with a recent focus on lymphoma.

Dr. Hamner serves as Managing Partner of Summit Pathology and Medical Director of the Harmony Surgery Center, Sterling Regional Medical Center, Centers for Gastroenterology and Gastroenterology of the Rockies. Dr. Hamner is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and is the group's expert consultant in gastrointestinal pathology. He also has special interest and expertise in general surgical pathology and microbiology. Dr. Hamner holds memberships in numerous local and national pathology organizations.

Dr. Hamner earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN, and is a proud graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He performed his anatomic and clinical pathology training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Following his residency, he enjoyed a two year gastrointestinal pathology fellowship under the tutelage of the late Rodger C. Haggitt at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.

Dr. Johnston is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He currently serves as the Medical Director of the blood bank services at both Memorial Hospital locations in Colorado Springs. He has special interest in surgical pathology, gastrointestinal and hepatic pathology and transfusion medicine.

Dr. Johnston received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and went on to medical school at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. He completed a fellowship in pathology at the University of Missouri, Columbia and his residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Johnston served as a staff pathologist at Wilford Hall Medical Center and Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, where he instructed residents and served as the Assistant then Acting Medical Director of the Blood Donor Center and Transfusion Services. He achieved the rank of Captain in the United States Air Force. He is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

Dr. Libby is a diplomate of the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and holds subspecialty board certification in Cytopathology as well. Dr. Libby is Medical Director of Summit Pathology Laboratories Cytology and Molecular Services, and the Long-Term Acute Care Hospital. She is one of the group's expert consultants for breast pathology and gynecologic pathology. She is also the group's only cytopathologist. She has published numerous articles and abstracts in peer reviewed pathology journals on these topics.

Dr. Libby received her Bachelor of Science degree Summa Cum Laude at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK. She remained in Tulsa for her medical studies, graduating from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine. She performed her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Libby has successfully completed three post-graduate fellowship programs in surgical pathology, cytopathology, and breast pathology. She moved to northern Colorado from Greensboro, NC, where she practiced with Greensboro Pathology Associates.

Dr. Daniel Long is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Cytology. He completed his undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, going on to medical school and completing his fellowship and residency all at Vanderbilt. During his time at Vanderbilt, he served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Long is a member of the College of American Pathologists, the American Society for Clinical Pathology as well as the American Society of Cytopathology and the Wyoming Medical Society.

Dr. Michael McFall is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Dermatopathology and Hematopathology. Dr. McFall completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Notre Dame and has a master's degree from Georgetown University. He completed medical school at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, IA. His residency in AP/CP was completed at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Dr. McFall went on to fellowships in Hematopathology and Dermatopathology at the University of Vermont Medical Center. Dr. McFall served as staff pathologist at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida as well as exclusively performing dermatopathology at SkinDX in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dr. McFall has lectured and served on numerous tumor boards. He has held medical directorships and published articles and presented on topics relating to Dermatopathology and Hematopathology.

Dr. Cristina (Tina) McLaughlin is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, as well as Hematopathology, with multidisciplinary Breast Pathology certification. She received her undergraduate degree in history from Reed College, in Portland, Oregon, and attended medical school at Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU) School of Medicine. Dr. McLaughlin completed her pathology residency at OHSU, before completing a surgical pathology fellowship (with an emphasis on breast pathology) at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and a fellowship in Hematopathology at OHSU.

Dr. McLaughlin has been practicing pathology in Colorado since 2010. She helped usher in 10 color flow cytometry at Unipath, where she served as Director of Hematopathology, and eventually Vice-President and Medical Director. Dr. McLaughlin has also served as a consultant for the Sarah Cannon Blood Cancer Network, in addition to her extensive research and teaching experience.

Dr. Nerby is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical pathology. He is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the College of American Pathologists. Dr. Nerby has authored several articles and abstracts and has taught pathology residents at both the Mayo Clinic and several Uniformed Services Health locations.

Dr. Nerby received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Moorhead State University in Moorhead, Minnesota, and attended Medical School at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. His residency was completed at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Nerby's fellowship in Surgical Pathology was completed at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Nerby was a staff pathologist at both Wilford Hall Medical Center and Brook Army Medical Center before arriving at Summit Pathology.

Dr. Aaron Novotny is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He completed his undergraduate degree at Mesa State College and completed medical school at Rocky Vista College of Osteopathic Medicine. His residency in AP/CP was completed at the Cleveland Clinic Robert J Tomisch Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Institute.

Dr. Novotny went on to a fellowship in Cytopathology at the University of Colorado's Anschutz Medical Campus. He comes to Summit Pathology from Sierra Pathology Associates.

Dr. Richard Owings is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He completed his undergraduate degree at Hendrix College in Arkansas and his medical degree at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Owings also completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Arkansas College of Medicine where he served as Chief Resident in the Pathology Department. He then completed a fellowship in Breast Pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Dr. Owings has experience in teaching and research projects, and has published in numerous industry journals. He comes to Summit Pathology from Delta Pathology in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Dr. Pizzi is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and has additional training in Breast and Gynecological Pathology. She is a member of the College of American Pathologists and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. Dr. Pizzi has authored several articles, including the study of Molecular Pathogenesis of Hereditary Ovarian Carcinoma.

Dr. Pizzi received her Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology from Princeton University in Princeton, NJ graduating Phi Beta Kappa. She attended medical school at Duke University graduating Alpha Omega Alpha and completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical pathology at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, WA. Dr. Pizzi also completed a fellowship in Breast and Gynecological Pathology at the University of Washington.

Dr. Susan Potterveld is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with fellowship training in soft tissue pathology.

Dr. Potterveld received her undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and completed medical school at Des Moines University. Her residency in AP/CP was completed at the University of Colorado School of Medicine where she was elected co-chief resident. Dr. Potterveld completed a surgical pathology fellowship at Stanford University and then returned to the University of Colorado to complete her soft tissue fellowship. Prior to Summit Pathology, Dr. Potterveld practiced at the University of Colorado with subspecialty interests in genitourinary and bone and soft tissue pathology.

Dr. Meghan Riley is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Hematopathology. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Kansas and her medical degree at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Riley completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. She then completed a fellowship in Hematopathology, also at Penn State. Dr. Riley completed an additional fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in Molecular and Genetic Pathology.

Dr. Riley was a National Hispanic Scholar and served as Chief Resident in the Department of Pathology during her time at Penn State. She is a member of several professional medical societies and has served on numerous pathology committees.

Dr. Ryan Sauls is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Hematopathology. He completed his undergraduate degree at Maryville College and completed medical school at Lincoln Memorial University's DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tennessee. His residency in AP/CP was completed at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

Dr. Sauls went on to a fellowship in Hematopathology at the University of Virginia. Dr. Sauls is based in Casper, Wyoming at Wyoming Medical Center.

Dr. Michael Smith is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, as well as Forensic Pathology. He completed his undergraduate degree at Louisiana State University, where he also attended medical school. Following an internship in Internal Medicine at LSU, Dr. Smith continued a military career, completing a fellowship in Forensic Pathology and becoming Chief of Anatomic Pathology at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. Dr. Smith received two Army Commendation Medals and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.

Prior to Summit Pathology, Dr. Smith was with Tristate Pathology and Forensic Services in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. In addition, he has extensive experience in gastroenterology pathology. Dr. Smith has numerous publications and abstracts to his credit on a variety of topics including forensic studies in military settings.

Dr. Stefka is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, as well as Hematology. He is the laboratory Medical Director at VA Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland, Wyoming and Kimball Health Services, Kimball, Nebraska. Dr. Stefka completed his medical education at Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Institute of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Faculty Hospital, also in Olomouc. Dr. Stefka completed an internship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois before becoming a resident in pathology at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado. He also completed a fellowship in surgical pathology at University of Colorado, and a fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah. Previously, Dr. Stefka served as a pathologist with Anapath Diagnostics in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Anapath Diagnostics became Summit Pathology in 2015.

Dr. Jason Sutherland is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, with specific expertise in breast pathology. He completed his undergraduate degree at Colorado College, and his medical degree at the University of Colorado Health Sciences School of Medicine. Dr. Sutherland also completed his residency in the Department of Pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences School of Medicine.

Dr. Sutherland has previously served as the Medical Director of Pathology at Swedish Medical Center in the Denver area. In addition to publications in medical journals on breast pathology, Dr. Sutherland has expertise in colorectal, pulmonary and bone marrow pathology.

Dr. Walts is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He is the Medical Director of Horizon Laboratories, Greeley Medical Clinic Laboratory (MCR), Greeley Oncology Laboratory (MCR), Greeley Emergency and Surgery Center laboratory (UCH) and Physician Director of Summit Pathology Outreach Services. He is the Medical Director of the Garth Englund Blood Donor Centers at Poudre Valley Hospital and Medical Center of the Rockies. In addition, he is the Medical Director of transfusion services at McKee Medical Center, Medical Center of the Rockies and Poudre Valley Hospital. He has special interest and expertise in general surgical pathology, gastrointestinal pathology and transfusion medicine. Dr. Walts is a member of several national pathology organizations and has published articles in peer reviewed journals on topics in breast pathology and cervical pathology.

Dr. Walts grew up in northern Colorado and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from The Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. He completed medical school at the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine in Bethesda, MD. His Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency was performed at the National Capital Consortium, a joint residency program between Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center. Dr. Walts left the army as a Lieutenant Colonel, after serving at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA, and Evans Army Community Hospital at Fort Carson, CO, where he was chief of the Pathology Department.
